Graz & Tulln

Graz-Thalerhof

Graz is a shared-use airport with the civil terminal on one side of the runway and the military part on the other side. In the old days Graz used to have a squadron of Drakens, but these have been replaced by ex-Swiss Air Force F-5's. The Tigers will be operated until the Eurofighter Typhoons have been delivered. The military part of Graz will be closed then.

Although there was not much activity at Graz, we did see a fourship of F-5's taking off and recovering for the rehearsals. After this rather boring afternoon, we drove to Vienna to witness a static show of some helicopters on the Heldenplatz.

Tulln-Langenlebarn

Tulln was the place-to-be during the Nationalfeiertag. 50 aircraft (mainly choppers and some PC-6's) took off to take part in the mass flypast. Unfortunately, the weather was perfect until the take-off, which spoilt the event somewhat.

However, we did see most of the other aircraft enroute to Vienna: the PC-7's, F-5's and Drakens we saw the day before, C-130's and SAAB 105's from Linz and four Typhoons that had taken off from Manching. The whole formation added up to... approximately 100 aircraft! Indeed, they did it...
