Linz & Ramstein |

Linz-HörschingThere was no flying activity at Linz, because the day after Nationalfeiertag was a holiday for most people in Austria. Fortunately, the base Public Affairs Officer had arranged a tour by a friendly SAAB 105 mechanic. The 105's that had taken part in the flypast the day before, were still outside in the dense fog. Once they were all fueled up they were towed in the large hangar one by one.RamsteinOn our way back to the Netherlands we made a stop at Ramstein. This airbase used to be a lot of fun for the aviation enthusiast, but the heightened terrorism thread has resulted in security measures that spoils the pleasure a little bit. The German police actively watches people outside the base and checks your camera a few times to see if there is no infrastructure visible on your pictures. The good thing about Ramstein is that a lot of heavy stuff can still be seen here. With Frankfurt abandoned by the USAF, there are always a lot of C-17's present and seeing the huge Galaxies come in remains an impressive sight.
