Tsuiki: windy approach |
||||
|
After a rainy day at Takayabaru and Omura, we moved on to Tsuiki. Tsuiki is one of those renowned airbases in Japan. Normally there is lots of flying, a nice scenery and good photographic possibilities. The base is situated on the northern coast of Kyushu and the aircraft usually make their approach over Suo Bay. Based at Tsuiki are one F-15 squadron (304 Hikotai) and the only F-2 squadron that we would encounter during our trip (6 Hikotai). The F-2 was co-developed by Mitsubishi and General Dynamics and by the looks of it, the people from GD used the blueprints from some fighter called the "F-16". Although forecasted as a cloudy day, the sky was clear and blue when we arrived at the airfield. Reason for that could well be the wind which was very strong with gusts up to 40 knots! Nice surprise at this airfield was that the aggressor F-15's from Nyutabaru were deployed there for a couple of days. |
