Polish Air Force 2009Like all former Warsaw Pact air forces that have joined NATO since the end of the Cold War, the Siły Powietrzne Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej has been in the process of modernization in order to comply with NATO standards. Most airbases contain a mixture of structures from the Soviet era and brand new NATO facilities. The same goes for the aircraft inventory: the Polish Air Force operates MiG-29's and Su-22's, but also received a total of 48 Lockheed-Martin F-16 Block 52+'s, which can be considered as the most advanced Falcons in Europe. In 2009 the Polish Air Force organized two tours for the aviation press. 3Greens.nl joined the second tour in October and visited five air bases: Malbork, Świdwin, Powidz, Łask and Warsaw. Find out how we experienced Polish hospitality on the next few pages... 3Greens.nl would like to thank the Polish Air Force press office for setting up this tour and all our tour guides for their patience and time during our visits.
